Water features are a great focal point on any property - but when the bed around them gets overgrown and messy, they lose all their appeal. That's exactly what we were working with here in Gilbert, Iowa. The rock arrangement was already in place, but the surrounding area needed a full clean-up and a fresh layer of mulch to pull everything together.

We cleared out the overgrowth, cleaned up the bed, and laid down a fresh coat of cedar mulch across the entire area surrounding the water feature. The warm reddish-brown tone of the mulch does a lot of the heavy lifting visually. It frames the natural stone nicely and gives the whole space a clean, intentional look.

This is the kind of work that doesn't take a massive overhaul to make a real difference. A good clean-up combined with fresh mulch is one of the most cost-effective ways to make a landscape bed look sharp again. The rocks stay put, the plants get a better growing environment, and the whole space just looks like someone actually cares about it.

Rock beds and mulch beds aren't just about looks either. Fresh mulch helps retain moisture, keeps weeds down, and protects plant roots - especially useful heading into the warmer months. Pair that with clean edging and a well-maintained bed, and you're doing your landscape a real favor beyond just the curb appeal side of things.

Sometimes the smallest updates leave the biggest impression. A neglected bed can drag down the look of an entire property, while a clean one makes everything around it look better too. This Gilbert job is a solid example of that.
