Sloped side yards are one of those problems that sneak up on homeowners. The grade makes the space hard to walk through, water runs where you don't want it, and the whole area just feels like wasted property. That's exactly what we were dealing with here.
We built three stacked block retaining walls along the side of the house to cut into the slope and create flat, manageable tiers. Each wall is built with dark textured block - solid, clean, and sized to hold. River rock fills the terraced beds, which does double duty: it looks sharp and cuts down on erosion and maintenance compared to bare soil or grass on a slope like this.
The concrete steps tie everything together. They run the full length of the slope, giving you a safe, solid path from the backyard down to the patio. No more navigating a slick grade in the rain or hauling things up and down an awkward hill. It's just a better yard to live in.
What we love about jobs like this is how much it changes the way a property functions. The space along that side of the house went from being basically unusable to a clean, walkable corridor with contained beds that are easy to maintain. Retaining wall installation done right isn't just about holding dirt - it's about making your property work harder for you.
If your yard has a slope you've been ignoring, or a side yard that's never quite worked the way you wanted, this is the kind of work that fixes it for good. Solid materials, proper structure, built to last.
